(With apologies to the great Monty Python)
There is a common theme to the messages of support and advice to managers as they grapple with the unprecedented challenge that faces them, their team and possibly their organisation.
As the Queen said in her recent message to the nation, "We need to come together (except that we can’t)."
Let me offer a slightly off-kilter approach. As well as getting used to shiny new toys - like Zoom to support people remotely - I think we should also consider moving back from technology.
How about writing and posting a letter or a card to members of your team highlighting their strengths and how you value them?
How about sending a card or a modest gift to your team members families expressing hope they stay well?
How about picking up the phone at the end of the day just to wish your team members well (just as you would wish them a safe journey as they leave the office)?
Whilst working remotely some of your team, well all really, will be missing the small human touches that help make working with you so special.
Stay safe.
In the meantime (as we all are using technology to spread a smile) here's something to brighten your day.
