Benefits of Career Coaching
The programme demonstrates to the staff affected, and those remaining, that management value and care for each individual even though their roles are being made redundant. It helps towards the development of a more positive feeling within the organisation, and the reduction in loss of morale. Participants develop an increased confidence in their first steps towards finding a new role.
This programme can help if you're an individual looking for support like Justine (read her story below) or a manager looking to support staff who are at risk of redundancy.

How Career Coaching has helped others
A group of staff from Gateway Family Services recently participated in career coaching. Both the individual participants and management reported positive experiences during and after the sessions.
"The training was a really positive experience in amongst the distressing situation of having to make some of our staff team redundant. Supporting the staff to explore their skills and strengths helped make their last few weeks more positive as they reported that they felt more empowered to move on and that the organisation had taken a proactive step in supporting this in a positive way. |
"Rob is good at getting you to reflect on your current situation and where you want to be. The information he shared about his own career has given me the confidence to believe in myself." "Very informative and inspiring. Feeling positive about my future." "Fantastic training! A real insight into what is expected when applying for jobs. The interview training was really useful." |

What challenge were you facing in your career? At the end of 2017 I was facing redundancy from an organisation where I had been employed for 9 years. Searching and applying for a new job after such a long period of time was daunting. I lacked recent interview experience and my CV was very outdated. I decided I wanted to work with a coach to help. What help were you looking for? Experience with interview techniques and CV writing. I really needed someone to help me sell the skills I had developed in my previous role. I found it difficult explaining what I did and how it would be beneficial in another role. After all, I just do stuff! |
I applied for an internal vacancy at my old organisation but I know I didn't handle the interview questions well. As my interviewer already knew me, I didn't prepare as well as I could for my questions. They already knew what I could do, but obviously this can't be taken into consideration in an interview situation unless it's explicitly said.
What was the most beneficial thing you took away from your session with Rob?
Rob really helped me look at how I could sell my skills. His guidance was extremely insightful when looking at how I could use working life examples to answer interview questions effectively. The interview skills session was great. As Rob didn't know me, I really had to think about my answers to make sure I explained my skills and experience thoroughly.
Will you do anything differently in the future?
The experience with Rob helped me see the positive in a negative experience. This is something I hope I can use in other situations in the future. I also learnt to focus on what is important. For example, I used to try and read every email that was sent to me. When I was office based it was achievable, but not necessarily something I needed to do. Now, I prioritise my time better.
Justine is now happily settled in a new role. We wish her all the best for the future.
