A journey of empowerED leadership at Coventry and Warwickshire MINDFollowing six months of coaching the Senior Operations Manager for Coventry and Warwickshire Mind, the board approached me about developing an internal training programme for 25 of their senior and middle managers. The aim of the programme was to increase their management and leadership skills and develop an empowered constructive culture in the organisation.
leadership programmeAfter discussing ways in which the training could be delivered with the charity, the CEO and trustees reviewed and signed off my proposal of a four-month leadership programme. It consisted of a mixture of three training days per individual manager and group and individual coaching sessions for the senior managers.
Topics for each session were tailored around three specific areas that I find are very important within organsations. empowered leadershipThis topic was covered during one day training session and addressed; leadership styles, one-minute management, performance management, delegation skills and coaching skills.
being the best you can be at workThis was another one-day group training session that discussed objective setting, time management, good communications, role models and developing trust.
having difficult conversationsThe final one day training session covered the essential skill of successfully conducting those important and often crucial conversations.
- What are difficult conversations? - Why have them? - How best to prepare - Delivering these conversations professionally - Follow up. what success looks likeI often judge the success of such a programme by the relationships I develop within the organsiation. And, as they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Following completion of the programme I
was asked by the charity's CEO Steven, to work with him on some individual coaching sessions. He is now receiving a period of coaching support from me. |
"I have been coached by Rob for a number of months now and have found his approach to be both engaging and supportive. |
